2 Utah Juniors Heat Up Glen Eagle GC to Earn Big I Championship Berth

Zac Blair birdied five of the last nine holes to capture the Utah Junior Open title and qualify to represent Utah in the Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic. He will join Amanda Snyder, who will be the Utah girls’ representative to the prestigious national tournament held Aug. 3-7 at Pinehurst, N. C.

Blair started the second day of the two-day tournament at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Syracuse, tied with two other 13-18-year-old boys. With temperatures nearing the century mark, Blair began applying a different type of heat to his competitors.

Although he felt he was hitting the ball well throughout the day, it was not until the 12th hole when he kicked it into gear.  He said at that point, the putts began to fall and he slowly pulled ahead of his competition.

“I think I just started focusing more and playing better when I needed to play well,” he said. He finished the two-day event, 69-66 with a final score of 135.

Snyder, his female counterpart, said her short game saved her during her two rounds on the links-style course. She shot 74-74 for a two-day total of 148.

The Utah Junior Open win is the third qualifying win this year for Snyder. She has also qualified to play in the Optimist International and the Callaway Junior World Championship.
