Juniors earn top honors in invitational tournament

Remington Schultz, Salt Lake City, and Lauren Ballenger, Heber, took top honors in The Players Championship July 27 at Alpine Country Club.

The two were among eight Utah junior golfers to win their respective divisions in the first Utah Junior Golf Association invitational tournament based on this year’s performance. The top 84 players in the Zions Bank Championship Series were invited to participate in the tournament using a Stableford format. Those invited to play in the tournament included the top players in the Johnny Miller Division, Boys 15-18 First Flight, Boys 15-18 Second Flight, Bruce Summerhays Division, Boys 13-14 First Flight, Mike Reid Division, Belle Fellows Division and the Girls 13-18 First Flight.

Players earned points in the tournament based on their play on each hole. Players who earned the most points in their respective divisions, were crowned champions.

Players received 1 point for a bogey, 2 for a par, 3 for birdies, 4 for eagles and 5 for double eagles.
